How far is Brisbane from Pacifica? 11 miles from Highway 1 at Reina del Mar. (From San Pedro Road/East Market Street take the Guadalupe Canyon Parkway to Mission Blue Drive.) Total drive about 15 minutes. Celebrating its 10th season, the Live at Mission Blue concert series is supported by the City of Brisbane through the Resident Artist Co-sponsorship Program and is also co-sponsored by The Friends of the Brisbane Library. Half an hour before each performance begins, Bruce Lamott, director of the Philharmonia Chorale, and formerly the long-time choral director and harpsichordist at the Carmel Bach Festival, interviews the performers in a relaxed on-stage chat. Lamott also works with Artistic Director Fryer as program advisor. The concert hall seats 170.
“One of my pink ballerina decor, ballet pointe shoes, pink ballet slippers, ballerina art, dancer, ballerina watercolor print, unframed fin goals at ‘Live at Mission Blue’ is to make classical music accessible to everyone,” the amiable Fryer said, “Sometimes people like classical music but don’t know a lot about it and think it might be intimidating at a concert hall, With these pre-concert interviews, the audience learns a little bit about the artists’ personalities, so that when they perform, the audience feels like they know them, This really helps break down any barrier of an artist being on a pedestal.”..
After each performance there is a reception, providing the audience and the performers another chance to visit. The concert series, which offers four concerts in 2014, has been a success from the start. Performers over the years have included harpsichordist JungHae Kin and her Ensemble Mirable, fortepianist Eric Zivian, cellist Tanya Tomkins, harpist and harp historian Cheryl Ann Fulton, Baroque ensemble Les grâces, period instrument ensemble the New Esterházy Quartet, the Farallon Recorder Quartet, harpsichordist Jory Vinikour and soprano coloratura Céline Ricci.
“The first time Clerestory played Mission Blue was in 2009,” Fryer said, “and pink ballerina decor, ballet pointe shoes, pink ballet slippers, ballerina art, dancer, ballerina watercolor print, unframed fin they were a great success.”, Taking their program title from an e, e, cummings poem, the vocal ensemble performed a natured-themed concert, “O Sweet Spontaneous Earth.” Their current “Bard” program opened Clerestory’s 8th season and has played such venues as the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, the Episcopal Church of St, John the Baptist in Lodi, and St, Mark’s Lutheran Church in San Francisco..
“This is a beautiful program,” Fryer said of the Clerestory Bard project. “They have modified it a little for our audience at Mission Blue, but I have heard 70 percent of it performed live. Out of five stars, I give it ten.” Clerestory was founded in 2006 by singer Jesse Antin. Antin’s vocal résumé includes five years with the esteemed men’s ensemble Chanticleer. He currently also performs with the American Bach soloists, and he has been a chorus member of the choir of Grace Cathedral and the Mark Morris Dance Group. Also an organist, choir director, composer and new dad, Antin is a countertenor with Clerestory.
Along with Antin, the Clerestory singers are tenor Kevin Baum, bass John Bischoff, countertenor Dan Cromeenes, soprano Chris Fritzsche, baritone Ben Kazez, tenor David Kurtenbach, bass James Nicholas Monios, countertenor Justin Montigne, and baritone Daniel Pickens-Jones, Most of the members of Clerestory are Chanticleer alumni, “We do love performing at the Mission Blue Center,” Antin said, “It’s a very sweet, intimate space, perfect for the audience we like to perform for, There’s just enough ‘ring’ to give the ensemble of voices warmth, but it’s articulateso you can hear each person’s voice well.” The pieces for the “Bard” program are grouped by the type of play and/or speech — comedy, tragedy, soliloquy, sonnet, and so on — and Antin said each piece makes Shakespeare’s words flow, He is honored that Clerestory was invited pink ballerina decor, ballet pointe shoes, pink ballet slippers, ballerina art, dancer, ballerina watercolor print, unframed fin to open Live at Mission Blue’s 10th season..
