Kalita has the Brooklyn accent down pat, and her rubbery face shows a wide range of emotions. Usually the song “Adelaide’s Lament” brings down the house, but Kalita tries too hard to sell it, and some words sung in her high soprano vocal range are hard to understand. Nevertheless, her performance is one of the best in the show. Mister does a good job of looking both worried and confident at the same time, although he doesn’t have quite the gritty gravitas needed for this role.

But if there’s ever a song that is well past its expiration date, it’s the dreary “More I Cannot Wish You,” which Dritz has to sing. There are a couple of standout numbers — including the opening one, “Fugue for Tinhorns” (better known as “A horse right here”) sung by Nicely and two other gamblers, and “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” which is both lively and exuberant as sung by Nicely and the male company members.

But it seems a strange choice to make “Luck Be a Lady” into some kind of angry rant rather than the theme song for would-be gamblers who always believe their luck will turn with just one more roll of the dice, Musical director Dolores Duran-Cefalu and her large ballet shoes ballerina dance cut file .svg .dxf orchestra seem content to play a rather subdued version of the score rather than push the dancers and singers to a higher level, That’s unfortunate, because the overall impression of this production is that everyone is playing it safe..
